My Trip to Bankside Gallery...

BankSide Gallery

I did not know what to expect from this day, visiting Bankside gallery. My only thoughts were I hope it interests me enough for me to stick around and take it all in.

It was funny at first because I thought to myself, what exactly am I suppossed to get from this experience? As I stood in the middle, of what seemed like a square foot of space, there were a few things that stood out for me in the work of Edward Hutchinson and that is his creativeness to put ideas together from spaces that already existed.

Some of Hutchinsons sketches and landscape designs.

At first I wasn’t even going to buy the book, but as I read through a few pages, one part caught my attention...
...Putting an initial concept down on paper has to be one of the most exciting moments for any designer....as the hand and the brain interpret thoughts and concepts in quick fire succession.
That is what made me pick his book up and purchase it.  As I went back home my mind was full of new ideas and concepts.

I saw this building stuck between two newly built apartment blocks, one clearly not yet finished and surrounded by scaffolding.

As I am very fond of history, I like the idea of period buildings, seeing now that modern and contemporary is now the in thing of the 21st century. I don't like the fact that we are losing the character of period buildings, apart from the few grade listed buildings that are still around.  I find period properties quite interesting and full of character and style. It has giving me some ideas for the future. I will reveal these later, not to give away my thoughts too soon, until the finished concept are materialised.

A gallery and an architects firm, I thought was very attractive, this actually is the front of the building that is in between the two new builds, pictured above.

I took a few pictures of some buildings I found interesting, some you may of already seen above.

Arches under a bridge turned offices, very functional design and utilises the space well.

I really enjoyed this little trip I made last week saturday, it made me look at desing in a new way.
